There are two eateries at this fish pond in the city. The far end is a cafe that sells Malay food and at the entrance, the cafe sells Chinese food
It is open daily and even in the day time. It is definitely much cooler at night however there are several huts that provide the shade in the day time
Melaka Raya has not only pubs and cafes for more active entertainment but also a fishing pond for those who prefer a more relax and quiet surround
Can't see any fish caught just yet
In the meantime, everyone plays the unofficial game of waiting to see who gets one first
Each time we recommend friends to Melaka, they respond along this Cantonese line "mou yeh tai...mou yeh cho". This blog is to highlight the many "hidden sites" of Melaka primarily and of the rest of Malaysia and the world in general. To do so, we would need a new way of seeing things; through interactive exploration. It is this that inspired the term EXPLORAQUEST and its theme "It's A Quest Of Scenic And Sensory Delights".

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - PRAWN FISHING AT MELAKA RAYA - 8.2.2009
For all you prawn fishing enthusiasts, there's this place at a shoplot in Melaka Raya that offers prawn fishing daily from morning to night
There is a large "kolam" about knee height like a mini home swimming pool
This chap's just caught one and he had about a dozen more caught earlier. Guess what he'll be having for dinner - udang gulai, udang sambal....
Now who says there's nothing to see and nothing to do in Melaka?

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - CHINESE TEMPLE AT POKOK MANGGA - 8.2.2009
This is the front entrance of the temple. Notice the curve roof design. The temple roofs are curved because Buddhists believed that the shape help ward off evil spirits
The front facade of the temple with a giant gourd-like display in the foreground
The colourful red, yellow and orange colours adorn the shape of the roofs of this temple
Many colourful sculptured ornaments like dragons, orbs and fishes are displayed on the roofs

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - LONG JETTY AT TAMAN AMAN UJONG PASIR - 8.2.2009
This long jetty was spotted at the seafront at the end of Taman Aman, Ujong Pasir. Beyond the jetty it is the Portuguese Settlement. I believe this jetty is part of the Portuguese Settlement
It's a great spot for fishing when the tide is high
Or sunset watching, photography and dating (at the same time!)

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - TRAWLING FOR GERAGAU AT TAMAN AMAN UJONG PASIR - 8.2.2009
What is Geragau? Geragau is the local name of a pinkish coloured shrimp usually found at Pantai Klebang, Limbongan and Tanjung Kling and coastal areas along the coast of Melaka
It is the main ingredient in making a Malaccan food called cincalok where the shrimps are fermented with salt, boiled rice water and sugar
These boys may not get enough catch to make cincalok. Their catch is usually sold to other locals as fish bait for fishing or prawn fishing

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - MRS GANESAN'S CHITTY FOOD - 1.2.2009
On our visit to the recently complete Ponggol Festival held at Kampung Chitty Melaka, we were invited by Mrs. Ganesan to sample traditional chitty food for lunch. Our first sampling happened on 1.2.2009. Three dishes were prepared for us. One fish, one prawn and one vege
All three were simple menus with local ingredients and they were all excellent! I particularly loved the fish menu very much
Melaka people are very friendly, this we have noticed since 2004. We are all looking forward to the next sampling at Mrs. Ganesan. Anybody want to join us next?
So who says there's nothing to see and nothing tp do in Melaka?
