Now who says there's nothing to see and nothing to do in Melaka?
Each time we recommend friends to Melaka, they respond along this Cantonese line "mou yeh tai...mou yeh cho". This blog is to highlight the many "hidden sites" of Melaka primarily and of the rest of Malaysia and the world in general. To do so, we would need a new way of seeing things; through interactive exploration. It is this that inspired the term EXPLORAQUEST and its theme "It's A Quest Of Scenic And Sensory Delights".

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - CHECKER ENTHUSIASTS OF UJONG PASIR - 10.2.2009
On the side of Ming Huat Restaurant along Jalan Ujong Pasir underneath the purple bougainvillea boughs, you can see daily locals battling away at checkers
Even the signs of the times (recession, job losses) can't draw their attention away from the ferocious battles on the board
On a large checker board like this one, one will need time to think and strategise and this player paused for his next move
Unique thing about this game of checkers is that this is probably the only place on earth you will find the Chinese and Portuguese doing battle with their Malays counterparts. Look at the serious expression of this Chinese and Malay player. Notice also that they are not sitting. Look at the postures of the onlookers
Now this is a more friendly battle between the Portuguese player on the right with his Malay adversary. Notice there's no crowd....
