EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - TRIVIA EXPLORAQUEST DURING CNY 2009 AT MAHKOTA HOTEL LOBBY - 24-31.1.2009























Trivia ExploraQuest was introduced for Mahkota Hotel Guests on 24-31.1.2009. Guests had fun trying to unravel some ancient and traditional artefacts such as ancient locks, ancient brass bowl, antique gramophone and metal iron, tangram puzzles, paper cutting etc.

Now who says there's nothing to see and nothing to do in Melaka?

EXPLORAQUEST PENANG - KAMPUNG SUNGAI PINANG FISHING VILLAGE - 5.2.2009

Sungai Pinang is a mangrove river that still has many traditional wooden houses built along its banks. As evident by this photo, you can still use your boat to get home

Kg Sg Pinang is a Chinese Fishing Community on the upper river and the Malay Fishing Community on the lower river. The main livelihood is from offshore and prawn fishing

A small passage passable by a car is the main way to reach the houses along the upper river

Traditional wooden shophouses adorn the sides of the main street junction

This is the Malay Fishing Community part of Kg Sg Pinang with the Penang National Park Office in the background

So who says there is nothing to see and nothing to do in Penang?

EXPLORAQUEST PENANG - CUCUK UDANG SPECIAL KG. SUNGAI PINANG - 5.2.2009

Opposite the second entrance to the Penang National Park Office in Kg Sungai Pinang, Balik Pulau, is a shop that sells super cucuk udang

The cucuk udang has very fresh deep fried tau foo, boiled potatos, slices of cucumber and of course, the cucuk udang pancake. The peanut sauce tops it all!

This is the facade of the shop. Can't remember if it has a sign board, that makes it all the more fun to find it

So who says there's nothing to see and nothing to do in Penang?

EXPLORAQUEST PENANG - PENANG NATIONAL PARK - 5.2.2009

This is the entrance of the Penang National Park located at Teluk Bahang. Visitors need to register themselves and obtain their entry permits here before they could enter the park. Entry is free of charge

The park was known as the Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve since 1928 and was re-gazetted as a National Park on 10th April 2003. However, it was not only until 2008 when this building became operational. This entrance lead visitors to the Lowland and Highland Dipterocarp
Forest. The main activities at the main entrance Hill Climbing, Jungle Trekking and Bird Watching


The Penang National Park has a second entrance located at Kg Sungai Pinang. This part of the National Park offers mangrove forest, wildlife observation and boating

This is our ExploraQuest Counter at Mahkota Hotel Lobby

The colourful Kebayas from Toko Ce'Ros and the giant traditional wooden clog are the main attractions

The red kebaya is the traditional Nyonya Kebaya while the orange and pink kebayas are called Modern Kebayas
The other great attractions on display are the ancient 16th century locks from China and India

The still playable antique gramophone and antique iron form another set of attractions

So who says there's nothing to see and nothing to do in Melaka World Heritage City?

EXPLORAQUEST PENANG - TELUK BAHANG FISHING JETTY - 5.2.2009

Where once an old wooden jetty stood that couldn't withstand the might of the 2004 tsunami, now lies a narrow and long but stronger one

Serving larger ocean going traditional wooden-made fishing boats

That are still able to sustain catches for local consumption

Seeing these men work, one needs to be reminded of the contribution of these great seafaring profession that is still standing the test of weather and time

Wanna try ferrying baskets full of fish on a tri-motorcycle along the narrow jetty?


Now who says there's nothing to see and nothing to do in Penang?

EXPLORAQUEST PENANG - 150 YEAR OLD TAU SAR PIEH SHOP IN JALAN BURMAH - 5.2.2009

At one glance it may look like a toy shop but this is a 150 years old heritage that produces the tau sar pieh

It could also have been mistaken as a shop that sells wooden flooring materials

But no..Chee Hiang sells edible "pearls of the orient" which the local dialect calls tau sar pieh.
This place still awaits your discovery despite it having been around for more than a century
