EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - WELL KNOWN "HEAD SHAKING" WAN TAN MEE IN TENGKERA - 18.2.2009
This is a very well known wan tan noodle spot located in Tengkera
Business is daily and starts from 7pm ONLY
The "head shaking" nick name is given because of the owner's apparent "head shaking" technique when he prepares the noodles. To know where it is exactly, just get to Tengkera and ask a local to direct you but you must mention "the famous head shaking wan tan"
What's there to do?
1. You might want to stop and check out another well known local food - the putu piring. The shop's located along the road..just mentioned "famous putu piring in Tengkera"
2. You can choose either the regular wan tan noodle or the flat one
3. In addition, you might also order a plate of "ochien" or fried oyster omelete, another favourite Malaccan food
Now who says there's nothing to see and nothing to di in Melaka?

This is by far the place that has the most variety of Malay kueh-mueh and fried stuff for lunch till dinner. This place is usually filled with people round the clock and reputedly, on eof the few places, patronize by all, Malays, Chinese, Indians, Portuguese and by locals and outstationers
What's there to do?
1. Try a little bit of everything. Best to bring lots of buddies along, otherwise, it will take the whole day as you rest after each item

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - PUTU MAYAM SELLER AT JALAN SEMABOK DALAM - 12.2.2009
It was a "lo & behold" moment when we spotted Muthu along the road at Kg Semabok Dalam
He still sells the traditional white putu mayam the traditional way too ie. on a bicycle ziggy zagging in and out of the many lanes in Kampung Semabok Dalam
In English, putu mayam is called string hoppers and is made with rice flour and pressing the dough through a sieve to make vermicelli-like noodles
Putu mayam is served with grated coconut and gula melaka
Those interested to catch Muthu, you can wait along Jalan Semabok Dalam around 3.30pm - 4.30pm. It is his routine routeWhat's there to do?
1. While you wait you can also check out the many goreng pisang stalls by some of the kampung houses
2. Pack the putu mayam and ask for more coconut and gula melaka

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - CHAI TAU KUEH CHINESE RADDISH RICE CAKE AT TENGKERA - 11.2.2009
Just about 100m from the popular putu piring shop, you will find another regular sight along the same Tengkera road. It has been doing the same business for the last 30 years
This Chinese radish rice cake or "Kueh Lobak" in Malay, is popular especially amongst the local Chinese. Compared to others, Uncle Lim's fries his lobak kueh (in Hokkien) with only radish rice cake, lots of garlic and black soya sauce minus the preserved vegetables. Eggs are optional
Most of Uncle Lim's clients always do the take awayNOTE: THIS FOOD IS NOT HALAL

This is one more well known place special for its putu piring. While waiting for your orders you get to watch an efficient performance of making putu piring
Your orders are made on the spot with some waiting as there's usually a cue
Most people do the "take away" and for those who travel far, it's usual that the coconut is left out
Business starts regularly from 6.00pm and goes on till all is sold

EXPLORAQUEST MELAKA - POPULAR CURRY PUFFS AND GORENG PISANG AT JALAN UJONG PASIR - 10.2.009
Guess what? The goreng pisang (fried banana fritters) and keledek (fried sweet potato fritters) comes with a special spicy chilly-flavoured sauce
Guess what? The curry puffs comes in three exciting and mouth-watering fillings - SARDINES (largest piece on the left), POTATOES (right) and VEGETARIAN (below). These too comes with yet another special chilly-flavoured sauce
The local drinks were great too. Check out the tea and iced coffee
